“An art deco castle in the air,” this is one of very favorite buildings in Los Angeles. Finished in 1927, designed by Percy Eisen and Albert Walker, and complete with French marble and over 30 tons of Rene Lalique’s art glass. The Oviatt was originally the home the Alexander and Oviatt, a men’s clothing store; James Oviatt and his wife, Mary, used the penthouse for their personal parties and events until they died in the early 1970s.
The Oviatt building was declared a cultural monument in 1978 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The penthouse is gorgeous and would be the perfect place for any event but especially for a picturesque wedding. The restaurant on the first floor Cicada used to be a men’s haberdashery. The beautiful art deco décor lends itself to a romantic dinner out, doubles as a movie set and has Sunday nightclub with live music from the era. Wanna dance?
Have an infinitely modern day!
