On Nov. 13, Christie’s will hold an auction containing one of the most famous and coveted diamonds, the Archduke Joseph Diamond, weighing in at 76 carats. This beaut is expected to go for over 15 mil. Easily. As if it doesn’t already look HUGE, here’s a little perspective.
Archduke Joseph August Viktor Klemens Maria of Austria, Prince of Hungary and Bohemia was part of the House of Habsburg, which ruled Austria, Bohemia and Hungary for more than 500 years. The archduke was born in Hungary in 1872 and married Princess Augusta of Bavaria in 1893. And wasn’t she a LUCKY lady!
The stone is a Golconda diamond which are reported to, “have a special whiteness often described as soft, watery, and pure, so that light appears to pass through the stone completely unimpeded.” As a jewelry designer, and a woman who loves sparkly things, I don’t hate that.
Have an infinitely modern day!
