“Although Tanzanite was once considered only as an alternative to sapphire, it has quickly established itself as one of the premier gemstones in the world.” -Gemological Institute of America
Named for its homeland of Tanzania, is a blueish-purple gemstone. The mineral was named by Tiffany & Co. after it was discovered in 1967. The American Gem Trade Associate made Tanzanite a birthstone for December in 2002.
There are several factors that go into the color display of each stone including, the how the stone is cut in relation to the crystal growth and heat. Also, Tanzanite is a pleochroic gem, meaning, it can display different colors when viewed in different crystal directions. Some believe it can promote happiness, compassion and trust. I believe it’s fabulous and looks amazing. I’d love to get one (pendant? ring?) or two (earrings!) into a modern CED original!
Have an infinitely modern day!
