Fall 2011 was a cathartic experience as we opened Cero Space and extension of Claudia Endler Designs Studio. Many of you know we have been building out the place here at the Brewery Arts Complex studio/lofts for over 4 years with the help of our dear friends and brilliant architects of Telemachus Studio. Needless to say it was emotional for me as I hung artist Jennifer Perlmutter’s work on the walls. We had an artist reception in October, Saturday night of Artwalk and it was magical. Ren was taking pictures as if he was a tourist in his own space.
With an artist’s work on our walls, the once construction zone, concluded the transformation of our space to an artist showcase, which we now call Cero Space. The interesting architecture of the 1904 once Edison Electrical Steam power plant, in contrast with the sleek and well thought out angles of the Telemachus Studio architecture, created tension and juxtaposition of design. This same tension was in Jennifer’s work in contrast to the sleek elements of CED, which was an amazing culmination. I felt the entire space is a work of art in its own right.
Giving thanks, we would not have been able to do it without our friends and family. Especially without help of our dear friends Carl Smith and Melynda Eccles of Telemachus Studio who worked side by side with us building walls, drilling holes, laying flooring and more. The realization of “it takes a village” is indeed what it takes.
It is the passion for creating and for creativity of others, that drives us and we continue to admire and appreciate that in our talented colleagues and friends. We will be hosting art openings, educational talks, architectural events. We have already hosted USC’s midterm reviews here, special dinners , art tours, which we hope to contribute to the cultural landscape of Los Angeles. A landscape which is thriving and bursting at the seams with talented emerging and mid career artists. Stay tuned for 4 art shows a year contemporary artists, photographers and more!
We are thrilled to share it with you. Wishing you much joy for the holidays and the coming year! Thank you for your patronage.
