JULY’S FEATURE: JEWELRY TRENDS OF SUMMER 2007
Wearing jewelry as an accessory and to express one’s self is a rising trend here in this fair city. The lines between fashion, fine jewelry, and craft are blurring, as one influences the other, telling the tale that jewelry is a must-have for both men and women. The icons of the gothic and biker cultures are now mainstream, as trendy moms sport bejeweled skulls and cross bones. The increased use of color and design permeate the marketplace. Colored gemstones, diamonds, and metals are reflecting the increased sense of options people are looking for. The scale of jewelry has increased with larger, more impactful ornamentation, including wider bands and bolder rings. The use of new materials, such as stainless steel, inlaid wood, rubber, and titanium offer a new and affordable edge for self-expression.

Most notable is the trend of moving away from the “off the rack” look, even if the piece comes with a pedigree label, to something more unique and distinctive. With Los Angeles being America’s creative capital, the region is rife with discerning tastes for custom creations that reflect one’s personal style. Angelenos are looking for flexibility in jewelry—pieces versatile enough for everyday wear, and yet transition perfectly for evening and still look appropriate.

All of these options infuse inventiveness into one’s wardrobe. The jewelry designer who collaborates to create that special piece is a desirable commodity. And that, ladies and gentlemen, you cannot find at Prada nor Tiffany.

STYLE RECOGNITION
A heavenly piece of Rome, Italy, has made its way to the heart of LA and into the hearts of its loyal LA patrons. Savor the authentic culinary creations of Roman chef Roberto Amico at Café Bella Roma—a quaint café and bar-style eatery that will momentarily transport you to Rome, but is conveniently located at 1513 S. Robertson Boulevard. Even the breakfast menu is mouth-watering, with fritattas (omelettes) filled with fine Italian cheeses, vine-ripened tomatoes, and perhaps a few droplets of truffle oil, as well as spicy Italian sausage, flavorful spreads, and fresh breads. Lunch options are endless, including soups, exquisitely colorful salads, not-your-typical pizzas, and 20 different paninis. Handmade pastas tossed with lovingly made sauces can be paired with beef, poultry, seafood, or vegetarian options to please any palate. Ten classic Italian items on the dessert menu will surely warm your heart even more. Sit outside on the patio or inside to enjoy the aromas emanating from the kitchen. Oh, they’ve got a nice wine list too, but with a mere $4 corkage fee, why not bring your own for an Italian experience unlike any other in Los Angeles. Check it out at www.bellaromaspqr.com.
