Diamonds Are an April Baby’s Best Friend

Maybe you did, maybe you didn’t. What you might not know, is the legend behind where birthstones came from.

Many say the tradition of birthstones started back in biblical times, with the Breastplate of Aaron. Aaron was a priest and the breastplate was a religious garment holding twelve gemstones representing the twelve tribes of Israel.

Twelve, as in the number of months on our calendar. You may have connected to dots by now, as time wore on, the twelve gems became associated with the zodiac and the months connected to it. Although, it wasn’t until 1912 when the American National Association of Jewelers came up with an official list of birthstones.

This brings us back to the fourth month and the fourth stone. The word diamond is derived from the Greek word “adamas” meaning “invincible,” which is quite descriptive of the stone itself as it’s believed to be one of the hardest substances on this planet.

While white (colorless, actually) stones probably come to mind when you think ‘diamond,’ there are many different colors of diamonds. The color is affected by various inclusions which determine the color of the stone.

Blue diamonds contain traces of the chemical element, Boron. Yellow diamonds have nitrogen inclusions. Black diamonds aren’t actually black, but contain dark inclusions that give this gem its sinister allure.

The most common stone in engagement rings, some believe the diamond represents affection, strength, eternity and don’t forget, everlasting love. Supposed metaphysical properties of diamonds are clarity, balance and abundance. Some say April babies are likely to display strong leadership and an assertive nature and are more likely to be extroverted.

How assertive are these CED diamond designs?
