NEW “JEWEL”
“What we say for diamonds is also true of colored stones… the cut and the color are the most important characteristics.” – ce

Smokey quartz in several cuts from cleaved to mirrored; sculpted lemon quartz; 2 different sized pale citrine in almost a context cut, great for a pendant and ring. The rutilated quartz below is a show stopper with the mirror cut that reflects light back at the observer. This piece is amazing against any color.

MARCH’S FEATURE: Great Finds in Tucson
It is funny. Ask any editor of any magazine, “What is the next trend?”, and you will get answers from the color purple, yellow or white to wide bangles, large hoop earrings or big rings. “Yellow gold is making a come back.” “The next hottest stone is Jade.” Well, not that we do not like to be informed, but when we go to Tucson, we want to be inspired and come up with something which fits our own aesthetic. At CED, we take trends into consideration, but love to find something different. This year the focus is on larger stones for bigger necklaces. The “must haves” in these stones are the smoky and clear quartz pieces, lemon quartz and yellow citrine. We, of course, love the cuts and the contrast of stones with a mirrored effect and a cleaved back. The challenge will be in creating a setting that does not detract from the brilliance of the stone. But who doesn’t like a good challenge?

We bought a few carved onyx pieces from a famous craver and will be using his creations to create something spectacular of our own. And speaking of black onyx, we somehow could not get away from its lure. Black onyx beads. Yes, you heard it. Beads! We love the shape and the color and matted texture, as well as the white sandblasted look of clear quartz beads. Can you just imagine them with gold or silver elements in between? The greens and teals of tourmaline are still a favorite and you will be seeing necklaces and earrings coming your way.

One spectacular notable, in our bundle of loot from the desert locale, was a large piece of quartz crystal, rutilated with black tourmaline. It is the only piece we have and a show stopper at that.

We always love to hear your ideas for collaborations. Let us know, if you have any preferences or special requests. Oh yeah… and come check out the loot, just for the fun of it!

FROM ONE OF OUR CLIENTS
“The ring is beautiful! It is so simple and elegant, and I love the fact that the diamonds go so far down the sides. It fits well with the others. Thank you so much for your beautiful work!” – Kate B.

“You have a much better life, if you wear impressive clothes.” – Vivienne Westwood

STYLE RECOGNITION
Should you decide to make the trip to SF, a “must see” is not only the deYoung Museum in Golden Gate Park, but what is inside for the next month or so. 35 Years in Fashion is showing through June 10th. Bringing insight and celebrating the career of now Dame Vivienne Westwood, the creator of Punk fashion, we found it highly interesting and inspiring. This woman broke many clothing boundaries, no pun intended. Well, yeah… Okay, maybe! Much of her work from 35 years ago really stretched how we look at fashion and is still relevant and fashionable today.
