Our Commitment 2005 event was a smashing success. This special “Thank You” event for our clients and friends was held at Telemachus, the architectural-design loft space downtown at the Brewery Artist Complex. “Thank you” to our hosts Carl Smith, Melynda Eccles and Matt Cheney for offering their home. Lisa Haukom of Tom, Dick + Jane out did herself with samples of scrumptious truffles that kept people swarming around her all night. Renwick Oden was the head bartender for the evening. With help from our friend Quito Banogon, they created some addictive chocolate martinis. We thought they were too rich to have more than one. It turns out, they were simply too tempting to have only one! We will have to keep that recipe a secret. In the wrong hands, it would be dangerous! Claudia Endler Designs added a few new pieces of jewelry for this special showing, which also found new homes. “Thank you” to Michael Powell and Marci Walker who helped display these treasures throughout the evening. Much fun was had by all and everyone left with a special gift as a “Thank you” and a reminder of our continued commitment to you.

Join NAWBO-LA as they present Women of Influence. The panel will address the topic of influence and creating meaningful change within our companies and the business community at large. Don’t miss it! March 12th-13th (Saturday-Sunday) Claudia Endler Designs will be exhibiting at the Contemporary Craft Market at Fort Mason in San Francisco. This well-known, juried craft exhibition will present the work of 250 artists, representing textiles, sculpture, furniture, photography, accessories and more. February’s Feature: A History of Valentine’s Day
There are many versions of the history of Valentines Day, most of which contain elements of both Christian and Roman tradition. The one we like the best contends that, in third century Rome, Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for young men, believing that single men made better soldiers than married ones.
Catholic Bishop Valentine, later Saint Valentine, defied the emperor’s law and secretly married some young couples. When the emperor found out, he sentenced Valentine to death. During his imprisonment, he fell in love with the jailor’s daughter, and before his death, wrote her a love letter. It was signed, “From your Valentine”.
While there are other versions of this legend, all center around love and commitment. Commitment to one’s self, others and one’s belief is an important philosophy at Claudia Endler Designs.
WHAT IS ROSE QUARTZ?
Rose quartz is one of the most desirable varieties of quartz. The pink to rose red color is unlike any other pink mineral. Its color is thought to be due to the presence of small amounts of titanium.
Rose quartz is mainly used as a decorative stone and can be carved into spheres, pyramids, obelisks, figurines and ornate statues. Although rose quartz is usually too cloudy to be used as a cut gemstone, a few exceptional pieces are found with enough clarity and color to make fine gems. Most gem-grade rose quartz is used as cabochons, where the clarity is not as important as the color. The best material comes from Madagascar, but Brazil produces most of the world’s supply of good carveable rose quartz. Other sites include the USA, the former USSR, Scotland and Spain.
Rose quartz, by some, is thought to have metaphysical properties and is considered to be the “love stone”, adding positive energy to relationships. It also aids the kidneys and the circulatory systems, promoting the release of impurities.

The city of Tucson, AZ will be holding their annual international gem fair. Exhibitions will include everything from fine high quality stones to geodes. We will be attending this show and reporting findings in the March edition of our newsletter.
THE WAY OF CHIC: Chocolate in pretty packages is chic.
STYLE RECOGNITION: Is chocolate really an aphrodisiac?
Chocolate is a traditional gift of love, ranking right up there with roses as the most romantic gift one can give. But is it really an aphrodisiac? There is evidence that the answer is, “Yes”.
Chocolate contains three substances, caffeine, theobromine and phenyethylamine that might be related to this myth. Caffeine acts as a stimulant. Theonbromine stimulates the heart muscles and the nervous system. And phenyethylamine is reputed to be a mood elevator and an anti-depressant. The combination of these three substances give you extra energy, make your heart beat faster and make you a bit jumpy and slightly giddy… Well, you can see how chocolate could be linked to love. In fact, Montezuma used to drink a frothy chocolate beverage before going to visit one of his wives.
