“Going green” has become increasingly popular in the last several years. So much so that now even luxury products and brands have joined in. Large companies and corporations are marketing their new products as “green” or eco friendly and publicizing how they’re minimizing their carbon footprint.
CED uses environmentally-friendly and sustainable practices, too. Our jewelry designs are produced in Los Angeles, California, with some of the most strict standards for working conditions and waste disposal. We create our pieces from certified recycled silver, gold and platinum, whenever possible, and repurpose clients’ stones and metal to provide a better value, contribute to the local economy, create less stress on the environment and leave a smaller carbon footprint. We have been working with the same contractors for years and will only work with those that provide safe working conditions and fair wages. In consideration of our saturated landfills, our shipping materials and packaging are 90% recyclable or reused. Even Gucci has joined in the movement with their newly designed recycled packaging.
So here’s the question: is going green a passing trend or a new standard? Some experts say that it is only a passing trend used to create an altruistic image or used as a status symbol since many green products have a hefty price tag. If it is a trend, I think it is here to stay for a long while. Green will just become the way things are done. Even if the popularity of going green does fade, I’m enjoying it while it lasts, passing trend or well grounded standard; it is still good for our planet and who can hate that?
