Not only did they give us our very lives, for many of us, our mothers are also often who taught us some of the biggest life lessons. I admire my mom very much. My mother taught me so many things about courage, about love, and about tenacity.
My mother taught me to always try to do my best. Then, I could be sure not to have any regrets. She would say, “You never know what the outcome will be so at least you can say you did your best.”
My mother taught me that even if you don’t have much, if you always dress clean, neat, and tidy, then people would respect that about you. Perhaps that is where my love for minimalism began? A guided focus on quality, not quantity.
My mother taught me I could do anything I set my mind to. But she did emphasize the ‘setting your mind’ part. It takes courage and dedication. Nothing in life worth having comes easy, so buckle down and put some elbow grease into it. My mother has always supported me in anything I’ve pursued.
My mother taught me that we are the writers of our own destiny. She would always say, “You make the life you want to live.” Looking back, it was such freeing and empowering advice. She never expected me to conform to a traditional lifestyle or career path just because that’s what others around me may have been doing.
My mother encouraged me to always remain true to myself and for that, and for so many, many, other things, I celebrate her. Thank you, Mom. Happy Mother’s Day!
