Still betrothing. But here’s a twist, in Colonial days the father of the potential groom would write to the father of a potential bride and request that they be betrothed. In these letters the groom’s father would report what would be included in the dowry, the characteristics and qualities of the groom, and why it would be a good union.
If the girl’s father agreed then the official dowry would be established, a courtship would ensue, and eventually, of course, the wedding. Colonial weddings in the north usually were more of the civil ceremony, courthouse type while weddings in the south tended to be more of a party. Reception to follow!
Have an infinitely modern day!
