If you think that Gibeon meteorite looks out of this world, then it probably is. The iron-nickel metal crystallized roughly 4 billion years ago. It has a chemical composition of 90 percent iron and 8 percent nickel.
The Gibeon meteorite landed on Earth in Namibia, and it was officially discovered in 1836. While no one knows exactly how the metal made the long voyage, there are a couple of theories. It could be asteroid fragments that broke off or they could be the result of a star that exploded.
Out of this World Phenomena
Gibeon meteorite often has lines and patterns that look like a galactic map — maybe some beings out there understand it. Scientists from our planet explain the unique phenomena as billions of years of cooling from somewhere in space and call them Widmanstatten lines.
Apart from Widmanstatten lines, some Gibeon meteorite have thumb looking impressions. While the impressions could belong to other beings, earthbound scientists call them regmaglypsts and offer a logical explanation for their existence. Entering the earth’s atmosphere wasn’t so easy. The Gibeon’s temperature went from above melting point to cooling down; the result of this temperature change was an impressionable thin layer of glass with shallow pits.
Earthly Uses and Meanings
The tribal people of the Kalahari Desert used the meteorite in their weaponry. The meteorite is used as an alignment and balancing tool; the nickel content is believed to purify the blood too. It is also a spiritual symbol of strength.
A piece of Gibeon meteorite could inspire you to reach for the stars. Gibeon meteorite is infinitely modern and beyond.
