Sunita Surajan discusses her commitment to her passion.
What did you want to see reflected?
Myself! I think it is important to be bold and open doors for yourself. What I mean by that is, I only accept projects and clients that I have a passion for. After working at Disney, Variety, Sony, and CAA, I’ve discovered that branding, marketing and launching new initiatives in entertainment, retail, and travel give me great satisfaction.
What was going on in your life that prompted you to need this reminder?
I wanted to get an MBA. There were skills that I wanted to develop, blanks that I needed to fill. As soon as the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, a top 10 MBA program, announced that they were launching in LA, I applied. Getting accepted into the program was just the start. Completing the program fueled my desire even more, to stay true to my passion.
Why did you choose these designs? How do they make you feel when you wear them?
I wanted versatile pieces that were elegant, polished, and timeless. Jewelry that exudes feminine power. I was also seeking a personalized shopping experience. Picking off-the-shelf generic pieces from a chain retailer was not appealing to me at all.
I love that you have an intimate showroom and a modern, yet soft approach to your unique designs. The fact that I was able to support a local entrepreneur made the experience even more gratifying.
What’s your motto for life?
“Doing what you like is freedom and liking what you do is happiness.” – Frank Tyger
It is the ultimate truth. If you are doing what you like, you are there because you want to be, not because you have to be. To me this is the secret of life.
I am happiest when I am prepping for a launch. I really enjoy managing the workflow and dealing with cross-functional teams. It is very exciting to see the efforts of numerous collaborators come together in time for launch. It is a real rush.
